The Youth Stem Commission met with City of Los Angeles, Council-member Joe Buscaino alongside a few guests on June 24, 2015 at City Hall in Downtown Los Angeles. The Youth STEM Commission officers where able to discuss their ideas, mission and vision with the Councilman in efforts to expand the Commission citywide. The Councilman was ecstatic about the possibilities and the new opportunities that would arise from the partnership and offered his support to the YSC. In fact, the Councilman committed to championing the Youth STEM Commission’s foot print expansion and offered the organization the opportunity to work on a motion with the City Council to assure that the YSC is a viable and long standing organization in local government. This is a big deal because the motion would mean that the YSC will have full support from the city council and can now galvanize the support and resources inside city hall. As a toke of his appreciation to the YSC the Council-member presented the group with an award for their engagement within their community. To cap off the morning the Councilman invited the group to join Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti at a press conference at City Hall to unveil a new Bus Shelter Modernization pilot program. The modernization effort consisted of charging stations, free wifi, and accurate bus arrival notifications. The YSC was excited to join the effort and will be following up on ways to bring technology projects similar to the Bus Shelter pilot program to their communities.
